Welcome

I hope to share my little ups and downs though life in a small town with hopes and dreams of the country life. With that I have learned to bloom where you are planted.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

It is here!  All our hustle and scurrying will come to an end today. All the packages wrapped and the decorations hung.  That is the way it is suppose to be.  One thing I have learned is to stop planning perfection.  It will never happen in my book.  Let's take the tree to start.  It is up and lacking some decoration.  Here is the minor problem, I packed all the décor away last year with help storing it.  This year I also need help getting it down.  Gosh, it hard to admit defeat!  The last two box I can't retrieve for weight of them.  Yes, I know - ask for help.  I've decided it is no big deal.  I love my tree just the way it is.

I do miss my nativity scene.  My nativity set is from my childhood.  My mother got a new one as I was starting my own home.  She couldn't understand why I want that old worn out one.  But it is the only nativity set I've ever had and it has survived all my kids.  So with it packed away in the boxes I can't retrieve, I improvised!

It is my old Fisher Price farm set.  Yes, Mary & Joseph found a stable!

MERRY CHRISTMAS  TO ALL

Sleepy Snuggle Pupsters!

Time is flying by so fast that I find myself farther behind.  Do any of you have this problem during the Holidays?  I'm trying really hard to wrap up the Christmas shopping, but I have to leave the house in the evenings to do that.  Gosh darn it is hard after I get home from work.  Now if I didn't have to come home after work to tend to the crazy pupsters I might get some thing done.

Over Thanksgiving I had two of my grand kids stay with me.  I kept meaning to post a picture of our laid back weekend.  The pictures are pretty fuzzy but I think you will get this idea of snuggle in!

This is called watching TV with white fur balls!  Jazi and Jackson just love it when someone will lay still.  They think I have a problem sitting still.

About mid morning they decided it was time to switch grand kids. Talk about two happy dogs with all the attention.  They sure wish they would come back for more snuggles.

They think they are neglected right now with me wrapping present, baking and of course shopping.  It's "Hey Mom sit down"!  Fingers crossed or paws crossed that I am finished by Friday!  Then it will be sitting down, snuggling and watching Christmas movies.

I hope everyone is more organized then me this year!!!

Cristmas Sewing in the Making

Have you ever said I'm not doing any sewing this year for Christmas? That was me!  So as the time has got nearer to Christmas, I get these little hints, Grammie you've never made me slippers.  Or Grammie I sure would like Duck jammies.  That is University of Oregon Ducks, of course!! So guess who is sewing for Christmas?

I've got four of the seven grand kids finished and three more to go.  The problem is the two older girls.  They are beyond home made pajamas. Plus I'm brain dead for creativity.  What do you make pre-teen girls?  Anybody out there in blog land have suggestions!

Thought I would share just one picture of my sewing. Okay, one sewing and one knitting.

Strawberry Shortcake pajamas and slippers.  I call these slippers 4-H slippers but some call them TV slippers.
I've been making these slippers since I was in grade school.   Let me tell you that has been a long, long time!

I hope everyone is over stuffing themselves with Turkey and now are into the Holiday spirit.  I'm working on decorating the house, but I sure could use some grand kid help with the tree.

The count down to a Merry Christmas has begun!

Enjoy June

It's Turkey Day

Well, for most it will be Turkey Day or a day of Thanks!  I love Thanksgiving for it is a time for family to gather and be thankful for many different things.  Some years the crowd for dinner is large and some years it is small.  This year will be on the smaller size.  Only one of my kids and family will be spending Thanksgiving Day here.  I've been one who never trys to make my kids feel guilty as where they spend the Holidays.  When they grow up and marry, plus have family of there own it is time for them to start making their own holiday traditions. When you start adding inlaws and some outlaws it is a time for them to share.

This year I will only have images of the turkey roasting in the oven.  Oh, the mash potatoes and gravy! Yum!

Wait!!!  the family that is coming are not fans of turkey.  Is that possible??  So what is any good Mom to do but bake a ham!  Yes, we will have ham for Thanksgiving and I for one will be thankful and enjoy every piece.  But wait,I so love dressing!  So we will have dressing with our ham.  I have a wonderful butcher shop not to far that I can buy just giblets.  Shhhhhhhhhhh, don't tell them that their is giblets in the dressing.

I wish every one of my family, friends and blog buddies a Happy Thanksgivings.  The secret to happy is to be accepting to where you are in life and make the most out of everyday!

Happy Thanksgiving

COOKIES, YUM, YUM C.O.O.K.I.E.S!!!!!

Does your family have a favorite cookie?  We sure do! It is one that we never grow tired of.  This recipe was acquired from my aunt back when I had graduated from the 8th grade.  My Mom and I traveled to Iowa and So. Dakota to visit family.  Just the two of us flying off together.  Oh I remember back then you put on your Sunday best to fly.  Boy have things changed now.  Comfy all the way now!  Oops!  I got off subject, easy for me to do. Do I dare say the summer of 1963, yikes!!!

Both my Aunt Etta and Mom were wonderful cooks. They always traded recipes through the mail. This recipe she gave us that summer were a bar cookie and oh so good.  They are flavorful, rich, chocolaty, peanut buttery, gooey and oh man my tummy just did the happy dance.

The recipe makes a large batch.  Enough for a plateful to eat and enough for a plateful to freeze.  They freeze really well.  That is if you can stay out of the freezer.  Yes,, they are delicious frozen.  My Mom would put some in a coffee can in the freezer to have for later.  Many of times when she went to retrieve them half were gone.  I wonder who ate them, hummmmm???  I got smart when my kids were young.  I would put them in the freezer and I labeled the container LIVER!!  Not one of the kids would come close to that container. Ha-Ha!!!!  It worked for years!

You use a large jelly roll pan and the trick is not to eat 6 dozen while cutting them up!

I thought I would share this recipe with you today.  We've called them Gram ma's Peanut Butter Bars  I'm sure they must have come with another name clear back then.

                                 Gram ma's Peanut Butter Bars

2 cups dark Karo Syrup (16oz bottle)
2 cups white sugar

Melt over low heat until sugar dissolves.
Add 1 1/2 cup peanut butter ( Extra Crunchy Skippy)
Stir to mix

Pour over 13 cups Special K cereal
Press into jelly roll pan ( I butter my hands for this)

Melt 2 cups milk choc. chips and 2 cups butterscotch chips.
Spread over above, cool, cut into bars

Mine are in the freezer waiting for Thanksgiving weekend.  Hopefully there will be some left for I still have no will power!

Enjoy June
