Welcome

I hope to share my little ups and downs though life in a small town with hopes and dreams of the country life. With that I have learned to bloom where you are planted.

Patching

Do people still patch jeans? I have a brother, yes the OSU Beaver fan one. He insists that his work jeans be patched as needed. One problem his wife doesn't sew much. When our mom was alive she always patched jeans and darned socks. Is that a word anymore except using a friendly word instead of cussing. So this lead to my brother thinking I now should take over the helm of patching. Ugh!!! With much stress and frustration I attempt to patch his jeans. Now lets also mention he doesn't work anymore, he is retired. So why am I still attempting to patch jeans?

Do I enjoy this sewing job? No!!! Especially when it is close to the double seam. So why is it I can't say No!!! That is another whole blog at a later time!

As hard as I tried I can't seem to get the patch squared. Anybody out there is blog land have some pointers. I suppose I will continue to patch his jeans but I do draw the line on darning socks. If they get wholes in them - Throw them Out!! I still have all my Mom's darning needles and thread that she used.

So one of these day I will tell you the story of not being able to say no and also now knowing I inherited it!!! So I truly can blame someone else. Great not to be held responsible!! Ha-Ha!

Fertilizer Friday

Rain, rain go away! It has been a difficult couple of weeks trying to get flowers blooming, garden growing. But I did fertilize everything before heading to work this morning. So with fingers cross the sun will come out. I have great plans for this weekend, but I don't think I will be as ambitious as Tootsie, so go check out her project. http://www.tootsietime.com/

The rain just seem to hang around and this peony is really trying to open up.

The red peony seen to thrive in the rain so I've had a couple of bouquets in the house.

I'm starting to hang my planters so let's hope they continue to grow, bring on the sunshine.

I'm pretty sure I have all my empty planters filled now. Of course I still have some starter plants left over so will have to find a home for them.

The Rhodie's seem to love the cooler rainy days. They have been out doing them selves. But some how I only got a picture of this one.

Just a closer look, boy did I miss out on the purple one blooming in the yard. Maybe I can get a picture in for next week.

So I will leave you with another bouquet on the table! Have a great Memorial Weekend and remember all our soldiers currently serving and also our past veterans!

The Kitchen

Oh to have a new kitchen! I started a remodel of my kitchen the end of last year. This is a project in steps. Some how that is just how the budget is going to work. First was the lower cabinets on the outside wall. With this I gained more counter space, dishwasher and a new sink. You see this little house didn't have a dishwasher when I purchased it. Yikes, I know but I survived.

I am so lucky I found a custom cabinet maker who was willing to do this kitchen in piece meal. He was cheaper then the big box stores. I still have the back splash to finish but that will have to wait until I have the upper cabinets made and installed. I want to do a tile back splash but don't know how much I need until the uppers are hung.

So now on to the next phase. The other side lower cabinets. But first this wall has to come down. I took off the wains coasting last night so now you know what this weekend holds for me, demolition.

Yes, that is blue painters tape at floor level. You see I am a fraidycat that a spider might crawl out during the night! So wish me luck taking down the wall. I am extending the counter to have a small breakfast bar. Then it will be on to the upper cabinets this fall, figures crossed on that.

Best be off to my daily ventures. I wish everyone a grrrrrrrreat day!

Time

Have you ever had a day when the thoughts in your head are racing around. They bank off the each and every brain cell. Today is that day. I have so many projects going or wishing to start and so little time to do them. I looked at my calendar for this summer and I have found I only have 5 weekends free from now until the first of October. What have I done!!!! Now, most of these weekends are booked with something fun so that is good - but! How in the world am I suppose to get anything done at my house. Where am I going to find the time to build my greenhouse or my arbor? Then that dreaded house work. With working on the rental since January you can guess what my house must look like. Thank goodness there is just me to clean up after, but boy can I be a little piggy! I need that TV organizer to come to my house and de-clutter. Oh wait, that sounds way too organized and boring. Me not having the chance to look all over the house from what ever I'm looking for.

So here is hoping the weather warms up, flowers start blooming, garden starts growing so when I am home I have a peaceful yard to enjoy! And what gets done gets done and to stop sweating the small stuff. For I am very lucky I do have all these fun activities planned and I have the energy and health to do them. So this blog is message to brain, stop, slow down and enjoy!

So to start I am enjoying the first bouquet of peonies blooming.

FERTILIZER FRIDAY

Friday and day to look what is blooming in the yard. Well most of the blooms got beat to death by the wind and rain this past week. A few survived this crazy weather. Where oh where is that sunshine. My irises are really starting to bloom. I should have staked them before the wind, but that was a good after thought.

My peonies are not quite blooming yet, but look soon! This one will be a bright magenta.

Look what I found? My roses are starting to bloom. I noticed a few aphids so I need to get out the rhubarb spray. I cook down rhubarb leaves and use that as a spray for my roses. It works great plus it is safe.

I sure hope this weather turns around for I would love to see all the blooms that will pop with some sunshine. Have a wonderful weekend working in your yard.

THE DUCK

Well here in the state of Oregon we have the University of Oregon (UofO) and Oregon State University (OSU). Plus more colleges but these two colleges is a great rivalry and culminates with the annual civil war football game. I am a University of Oregon Duck fan. Even though I don’t attend many home games for I am watching grandkids while parents attend the games. The TV is on so we can watch all the action. The Duck’ colors are green and yellow. As you can see some of the get ups that are wore to games.

All the grandkids have Duck shirts and sweatshirts. We have banners, window signs, beads, footballs, basketballs, Frisbees, mugs, glasses, patio lights, flip flops, X’mas ornaments, garbage cans, door mats, flash lights and many more things that are green & yellow with either the Duck or the Big O on it.

Now enter my brother! He and his family are OSU Beaver fans. His grandkids are decked out in orange and black for the beavers. I think you are getting the idea that it is not only college teams that have the civil war but also my family. Now enter the duck planter.

And as you can see what color it is, an extreme insult to a Duck!!! But what this does is brings on the war! No, I haven’t figured out what repercussions this will bring to my dear adorable loving brother – NOT! But he is in for the battle. I would welcome any suggestions from my blog friends to get even. Now don’t get me wrong this is a friendly war, hummmm maybe, hee-hee.

So the wheels are turning, now just come up with something good!
