Welcome

I hope to share my little ups and downs though life in a small town with hopes and dreams of the country life. With that I have learned to bloom where you are planted.

Tip Toe Through the Tulips

This time of the year after work I drive through the tulip fields on my way home. I thought I would share the pictures I took today.

We had a little rain today but it didn't spoil the blooms.

Here is the brains behind this farm. She has taken the reins from her parents and turn this festival into what it is now. You will find her taking pictures of the flowers and visiting with everyone.

Here is my favorite, isn't he cute!!! I know he isn't a tulip but I so want him. He lives at the farm along with his buddy and a few horses.
So if you are anywhere close to Woodburn, OR it is well worth your trip to see all the blooms.

I feel extremely lucky that I can enjoy this everyday.

Need Dress Form FAST!

Remember my lack of skills with taking pictures. Now I don't have any props! I've been sewing a little and I thought I would share a picture with you. They just didn't turn out. I'm now on the search for a dress form. Not just any dress form. She has to have personality, character and must be mature. In other words I'm looking for a vintage dress form. I know I can find one but the problem; it must fit in my budget. Isn't it funny how that always gets in the way.

Well I'm going to share anyway!!! These are two of the aprons I've been working on. Both of these patterns I aquired at the NW Sewing Expo last month. I vowed I was going to do better this year with projects.

The pink one is fairly long. It will have to go to one of my tall friends. I love the flounce at the bottom. The chicken one is a great utility apron. I may keep this one myself. Now you can see why I need a dress form. You can't even get the idea of the style. The bunny in the picture is telling me to hide chocolate in the pockets. Shhhhhhh, that is a great idea!

In Like a Lamb

If the month of March comes in like a lamb it will go out like a lion! Boy oh boy is the lion roaring. The wind woke me up at 2:30 this morning. I could hear things blowing around but I knew at that hour I wasn't going out. I also could hear the rain for it was pouring. So I got to thinking of all of my poor flowers taken a beating. Plus with the down pour that means planting my garden is farther off. Our weather is so goofy this time of the year. Saturday was sunny and almost seventy degrees. What a change from today. I did turn the soil over in the garden boxes and do a little weeding on Friday evening. Saturday was a great day to work in the yard, but I was doing my usual; working on the rental. I am happy to report that I think one more day there and it is ready to rent.

Here is a couple of pictures from this morning and guess what? It is still pouring! I give up!! I give up!! I have tried and tried to upload pictures this morning but blogger say they are there but obviously they are not. Have any of you had this problem?? Where do they go? Maybe it's not meant to be; to post deary pictures or pictures of windblown flowers or chair blown over. So on to the next post !!

And the next post was to be a couple of aprons I was working on this weekend. I just hate it when I run out of supplies. It's not like the fabric store is around the corner. So no apron pictures until I make a trip to Joann's. I usually have enough supplies at home to open a fabric store of my own.

So here hoping the wind stops blowing, the rain stops pouring and the sun comes out.

Fertilizer Friday!

Thanks Tootsie for this great idea of flaunting our flowers on Friday.
Even though it is a little rainy today the first part of the week has been beautiful. It really made a few more flowers bloom.

I love tulips but they do have a short blooming time. I sure wished they would bloom all spring and summer. The daffodils are out doing them selves this year.

I couldn't resist picking a bouquet for the house. I had picked a hyacinth and it's smells was wonderful. But guess what I didn't take a picture.

Now where do I get all my bulbs? It is a farm not far from my work and this time of the year they have a festival. So if you want to have a fun weekend see lots of bloom check out.
They also have other fun activities and some good food. You know my tummy always thinks of food.
Here's hoping you have a great weekend!!

Is it to Good to Use?

With the dusting of things in my china cabinet you will recall the coffee set from the previous blog. And of course the ducky not chicks salt and pepper shakers. I wonder how many of us have things in cabinets, drawers, and shelves that we save because they are too good to use. We may get that pretty towel set out when company comes. Or get the nice dishes out for holiday dinners. How about hand embroidery kitchen towels? Well I found one more thing in the china cabinet that has been hiding away; it is a dresser set. It sat on my Gramma's dresser back in Iowa when I was a little girl. I can remember when I was 7 years old my Gramma told me I could touch it but I had to be very careful. It came to my mothers house and sat on her dresser but again we couldn't touch it. It was too fragile. You know I had to agree with her. So guess what? It coming out!! Maybe one reason I didn't have it out is I didn't have a dresser in my bedroom that it could be set on. But that really isn't an excuse for hiding it away.

Here is the dresser without the set. I really think it need something special on it.

TaDa!!! Here is the little set. It has a small ring tree, a little trinket jar and a small dish. It has such a delicate flower pattern. Some of the gold edging is gone with age. But now you can see why I always loved it. The little sign in the back says "Because in the end it was worth it". I pick this up on one of my Canton, TX trips. It is so me! Will my granddaughter be able to touch it? Oh Course, but they will get the little talk my Gramma gave me.

So my wish for you today is to look in that drawer or cabinet and get out the fancy stuff and treat yourself. Who better to be nice too!!!

No More Chickens!

It's Spring and with that come baby chicks. With a lot of thought this spring I've decided not to get anymore chickens. So that mean no baby chicks this year. This is disappointing to my grandkids. They enjoy watching them grow up. They are always willing to help feed and fill their water. Of course when they are over they run to the coop to see if their are any eggs. If I know they are coming over I don't gather the eggs in the morning. They so enjoy finding eggs.

There is only one chicken I want and that is a Polish Crested. A blog friend has the most wonderful Polish Crested named Babs. I would kidnap her in a heart beat, but we couldn't live any farther away. She is clear over in PA and I'm in OR. But if I knew how to link to any other website I would send everyone over to check out Babs. The only thing I can do is Bab lives at Bee Haven Acres and her special posting is Babs the Wonder Chicken. Maybe you can copy and paste this wed address. http://beehavenacres.blogspot.com/ Hey, maybe I did link it???

So with that said here are the only chicks I will have this year! They are an old set of salt and pepper shakers. If you read my previous post you know about my Mom having a coffee set I couldn't touch as a child. Well guess what? Here is the salt and pepper shaker I couldn't play with either. They also stayed hide away in the cupboard. So they are now out on my table for everyone to see and yes, the grandkids do pick them up.

Hummmmmm maybe they are baby ducks, and I always thought baby chicks. Goes to show I never took pictures of them before. Have a wonderful day!!!

Need more than a cup ful

Over the weekend and might I say a lovely weekend, I was doing some spring cleaning. I removed dishes from the china cabinet to dust. One thing brought back some childhood memories. As a child my Mom had a cupboard with dishes that were very seldom used. One was a gold set and see said "its a coffee set". For some reason I always liked it but was never allowed to play with it or for that matter to even get it out of the cupboard. So I would stand on the counter and rearrange it several times until I was told to get down. We are talking even when I was in high school. Now could it be that I wasn't allowed to play with it? Was is something I really liked? As I grew up, married and family of my own I would ask Mom what ever going to do with that? The answer was always the same. It's not very useful and I don't want to hand wash it. So it stayed up in the cupboard out of sight forever. Several times I suggest she give it to me since she never took it down. Then of course the conversation would change instantly. Many years have passed and Mom is no longer with us but the gold coffee set is now in my china cabinet. I have to laugh for it just sits in my cabinet. I don't use it because it is not very useful. For I would need several cup fulls to even get a taste of coffee from the size of the cups. But now I wonder if it is a coffee set or what it purpose really is. If any of you have a suggestion please let me know.

As to how old it is, I'm guessing the forties but really don't know. Even though impractical I still like it. Looking at the pictures even makes the cups look larger but you can't get your finger in the cup ear, you have to pinch it to hold. I think they hold about 1/2 c on a measuring cup. As you can see small.

Here hoping for a wonderful Spring day and all your flowers are starting to bloom. Yes, I love my daffodils!!
